I'm an Ontario employment lawyer with over thirteen years' experience working with employers in Toronto, Peterborough and Durham Region. I started my legal career in the litigation department of a large Bay Street firm. I then spent over a decade as in-house Labour, Employment and Human Rights Counsel for Loblaws, Canada's largest private sector employer, where I provided strategic advice, representation and training with respect to all aspects of the employment relationship. I was raised in Peterborough and I'm overjoyed to return to raise my own family and contribute to the community.
Almost everything, but what I find particularly rewarding is being able to help people understand the legal issue they are dealing with in a way that decreases their anxiety and increases their comfort with moving forward. Employment law provides a unique opportunity to do this, because I partner with my clients over the long term and really get to know them, their organization and their goals. That way, whether I'm teaching an entrepreneur about everything she needs to put in place so she can hire her first employee, coaching a manager through his response to a request for accommodation, or helping a business write its bonus plan, I can tailor my advice to the big picture.
My goal is always to have people leave our office or a call with me thinking, "that was a huge help."
I was a high school math teacher before I became a lawyer. Now I put that experience to use creating and delivering engaging, effective training for managers, HR professionals and employees - minus the algebra!
